After you pass the exam, all Notary commission applicants
must submit to a live scan fingerprinting. The live scan sites can be found throughout the
state at certain law enforcement offices and certain school offices, or
you can visit
http://caag.state.ca.us/fingerprints/publications/contact.htm The fingerprinting fee is $32 plus a print-rolling fee.
The Secretary of State’s office will submit your
fingerprints to the Department of Justice and to the Federal Bureau of
Investigation in order to do a background check on you.
They look to see if you have a criminal record, or
whether you have used other names in the past with which you may have a
criminal record.
The Secretary of
State looks at it this way: their responsibility to protect the public
from dishonest people becoming notaries is much more important than your
desire to become a notary public. |
