Part 5, Section 6
The California
Secretary of State may commission notaries for military bases in
California. These military bases include the Army, Navy, Air Force,
Marines, and Coast Guard. Upon the recommendation of your base
commanding officer, you may apply to become a military base notary. You
must be a US citizen, at least 18 years old, a federal civil service
employee at the base, take a six-hour notary training course, and take
the proctored written exam.
As a military base
notary, you may only perform notarial acts on your base, and you may not
charge any fees for your notarial acts.
On any jurat, in addition to the state where the notarial certificate was signed, the name of the base must be included. Government Code § 8203.5
The military base
notary commission is for four years, unless your civil service
employment is terminated within those four years. In that case, your
notary commission is also terminated (considered a resignation), and the
commanding officer of the base must report such termination to the
Secretary of State. |
