Frequently Asked Questions

What is Your Refund Policy?

A refund will be issued if it is requested within 90 days of registration for the course, and before a Proof of Completion certificate has been sent to the course attendee.

When Should I Expect to Receive My Proof of Completion Certificate?

Your Proof of Completion certificate will be issued and e-mailed to you the same day you finish the course.

The Secretary of State’s office requires that you be informed of the following:
A Proof of Completion certificate must be provided to you within 10 calendar days of completing the course and providing all of the necessary documentation (e.g., declaration of completion, identification, payment). If you submit an inquiry regarding the status of your Proof of Completion certificate, a detailed written response shall be provided to you within 10 calendar days. The written response shall indicate, at a minimum, whether a Proof of Completion certificate has been issued (if one has been issued) or why a Proof of Completion certificate has not been issued (if none has been issued).

We will not ask for or collect your Social Security Number.

Why is There a 6-Hour Course and a 3-Hour Course?

One course is to renew a license and the other is to help you get your license if you are not yet a notary or your previous commission has expired.

All persons seeking appointment as a notary public must satisfactorily complete a Secretary of State approved six-hour course of study prior to appointment. (Government Code section 8201.) Please note that all persons being appointed, no matter how many notary public commission terms that person has held in the past, are required to take the six-hour course of study.
